"You either move toward something you love or away from something you fear. The first expands. The second constricts." - Tom Crum
Why do we fear, what purpose does it serve, other than to activate our fight or flight mechanism? None really, that is it's purpose, self-preservation, run to where it is safe, don't take chances, the problem is, by allowing fear to have power over us, we effectively quit living our life, we back away from what scares us and it kills us inside a little.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - Frank Herbert, Dune
When we fear, we shut down, our minds quit working, it is then best to stand up and face it, let it wash over us and cleanse us of the fear, but all to often we let it shut us down, we choose a path to avoid that which we fear, we avoid it, run from it, flee to where we think we are safe, but all that does is give the fear strength, and next time, the fear will come closer, further restricting what we are willing to do.
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt
Only by facing our fears do we grow stronger. If you run, it will find you, if you avoid it, it will chase you, only when a fear is faced is it counquered, never to bother us again.
"The greatest obstacle to love is fear. It has been the source of all defects in human behavior throughout the ages." - Mahmoud Mohammed Taha
How many of us know someone who got into a relationship, and it went well, then they came up with a myriad of minor issues to convince them that it is hopeless, that they should give up and get out? What is accomplished in so doing? Nothing, they loose the love they had, and exchange it for nothing, they shut themselves down and go back the their "safe zone" of being alone or some relationship they know subconciously will fail, but growth comes from facing our fears and being more than we once were.
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear." - Redmoon
Is not love more important than fear? Should we not love all around us? We must learn to stand up and not fear, fear leads to so many bad things in the long run, we need to learn to avoid it.
"Because of their courage, their lack of fear, they (creative people) are willing to make silly mistakes." - Frank Goble
OK, had to toss this one in, I know I make my share of silly mistakes, maybe even several other people's share as well. But I do not fear to make more, I keep trying, keep moving, some things will work, others fail, but I will not quit.
"Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live." - Dorothy Thompson
Up to you, live or fear, which will it be, which do you think is the better way to be? I choose to live, and yes, there is pain, there is suffering, but there is also great love, great joy, I choose to be me, and not whatever fear wants me to be.
"Have a vision not clouded by fear." - Cherokee Proverb
