Depending on where you look or who you ask, there are anywhere from three (3) to ten (10) times as many submissives as dominants. The average age when someone first enters into a long term relationship is in their early to mid 20's.
These two statistics paint a stark picture for submissives hoping for a monogamous relationship. If the submissive is seeking an experienced dominant, odds are very good there are few or no available options. And what options there are often have serious issues associated with them.
With the abundance of submissives, the dominants, have options and can pick who they like. Many of the stronger dominants end up in poly relationships simply because of the wide spread in numbers.
When I see a submissive looking for that perfect dominant, single, monogamous, strong, I call it the "fairy tale" syndrome, because the submissives assuming they will find a 30 something strong dominant who is only interested in having a single submissive and is not already taken is just that, a fairy tale.
